The well-drilling process generates two types of wastes — used drilling fluids and drill cuttings. Drilling fluids (or muds) are used to aid the drilling process. Muds are circulated through the drill bit to lubricate the bit and to aid in carrying the ground-up rock particles (drill cuttings) to the surface, where the muds and cuttings are separated by mechanical means. Most onshore wells are drilled with water-based or oil-based muds, while offshore wells may also use synthetic-based muds.

A closed-loop drilling fluid system uses a series of storage tanks and solids control equipment to remove drill cuttings from the drilling fluid once it has carried them out of the wellbore during the drilling process. By removing these cuttings quickly and efficiently, an operator can increase the life of the drilling fluid and minimize waste, both of which have a significant impact on overall drilling costs.

Last week, the 1000GPM mud system was shipped India HDD project. The system is applied to construction projects with higher mud capacities. Its purification process is divided into three stages: shale shaker for the first stage, desander and desilter respectively for the second and third stages. Both desander and desilter are equipped with underflow shakers that can carry out a further treatment to solids discharged by the upper equipment.

During the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) process large amounts of liquid waste are produced. Shale shakers are the primary means of solids control resulting in a wet, difficult to manage, drilling waste with a high volume of mud losses at surface.

The make-up fluid is typically fresh water, used to replace surfaces losses. As the drilling rate increases, waste is generated at a higher rate, usually with a higher fluid content. Generally, at this point in the process drilling waste is transported off-site in its entirety by vacuum trucks.

The drilling waste in its current state has to be disposed of at a Class II wet waste disposal facility, increasing cost, traffic risk, and environmental impact. Depending on the contaminants in the formation or fluid, along with project location, disposing of waste at a facility is the only option.

The mud system is engineer designed to clean, recycle and mixing drilling mud in one mud tank package. The flow capacity is 500gpm + with shaker operating at 40 mesh screens and mud density 1.2g/cm³. Decanter Centrifuge

DC series decanter centrifuge is used in separating suspension of solids phase with particle diameter(d≥2μm) for drilling mud and fluids handling. It is used as the 4th phase solids control equipment after shaker, desander and desilter. The centrifuge suck the mud from the compartment receiving the discharge from the desilters and mud cleaners, and the returned stream is directed enter into the next compartment downstream. The use of decanter centrifuge with the drilling mud is (1) removal mine solids from unweighted fluids (2) selection separation of colloidal and ultra-mine solids from weighted fluids to improve their fow properties.
