Shakers act by removing solids from drilling fluid as the mud passes over the surface of a vibrating screen. Particles smaller than the openings in the screen pass through the holes of the screen along with the liquid phase of the mud.

Particles too large to pass through the screen are thereby separated from the mud for disposal. Without proper screening of the drilling fluid during this initial removal step, downstream equipment will experience reduced efficiency and effectiveness. The downstream hydrocyclones and/or centrifuges (if elected) will simply be overloaded beyond their design capacity.

Selection of Solids Control Equipment for the mud tank.

The selection of the solids control equipment for the mud tank is also depends on the drilling rig size and drilling conditions. List of the main solids control equipment for the drilling rigs are as below:
1) One Each ZYQ1000 Mud gas Separators
2) Three Each of DCS700-3 Linear Motion shale shakers for 1500 GPM handling capacity
3) One each of DCZCQ270A vacuum degasser
4) One each of DCQJ250X3/100X16 mud cleaner which including 3 ten inch desander, 16 four inch desilter for the capacity up to 1500 GPM.
5) Two 75HP DCSB8x6 centrifugal pumps for feeding the mud cleaner, and two 75 HP mixing pumps for the mixing hoppers.
6) One middle speed DCLW450 decanter centrifuges for barite recovery or high gravity solids separation.
7) One high speed DCLW363BG decanter centrifuge for low gravity fine solids separation.

Besides the solids control equipment, the mud tank should also have the mixing and agitation device. The mud cleaner integrate a group of de-sanding cyclones and de-silting cyclones on one vibrating screen. The drilling fluid will firstly pass the de-sanding cyclones or de-silting cyclones for separation, with overflow returning to the circulatory system and the bottom flow screened and treated by the vibrating screen. If necessary, the vibrating screen of the integrator could be used as the fore-stage vibrating screen.

And the important part of the desander and desilter is the cyclone. The cyclone is made of wearing-resistant special polyurethane material, which has good performance in fluid erosion resistance. The feeding port is designed to have a round and smooth transition, beneficial for improved separation efficiency. It is smooth in structure and rational in design.

Mud Tank System is a part of circulatory system of the rig, used for storing and feeding the required drilling fluid during Rig operation cycle. Mud Tank System is available for different drilling rig sizes from 250HP to 3000 HP with different capacity.

Normally, a complete mud tank system consists of a mud tank with compartments for both incoming dirty and cleaned fluid, a shale shaker, a desander (depending upon the size of the unit), and a desilter. The shale shaker separates larger solids approximately 400 micron and larger, the desander separates solids approximately 100 micron and larger, and the desilter separates solids approximately 40 micron and larger. After the fluid processes through the desilter and deposited into the clean tank, it can then be pumped to the mud pump to be pumped back downhole.
