3. One sets 20 feet containers are used respectively as mud recycling tank, mud storage tank and mud mixing tank. Other equipment like centrifugal pump, and mixing hopper are installed on tank and shipped without disassembling them.

The mud cleaner integrate a group of de-sanding cyclones and de-silting cyclones on one vibrating screen. The drilling fluid will firstly pass the de-sanding cyclones or de-silting cyclones for separation, with overflow returning to the circulatory system and the bottom flow screened and treated by the vibrating screen. If necessary, the vibrating screen of the integrator could be used as the fore-stage vibrating screen.

DC Solid control developed an enclosed solids-control system that eliminates the traditional process of shaking fluid and solids and replaces it with an enclosed, vacuum-based filtration process.

Rather than relying on high G-forces, the new system vacuums drilling fluids through a rotating filter belt by using high airflow to separate the cuttings from the fluid. The cleaned drilling fluids are then returned to the active mud system, and the drilled solids are carried forward on the filter belt for discharge or removal.

The high airflow also preempts the need for expensive mud coolers and is particularly applicable in high-pressure/high-temperature wells. The improved separation capabilities lead to better quality mud and fewer chemicals required to maintain its properties.

With more mud recycled back to the fluid system, there is less waste, and that waste is cleaner. The new solution also generates substantially drier cuttings with mud on cuttings being reduced to less than 30 percent of drilled solids, and oil on cuttings as low as 5 percent.

Many types of drilling fluids are used on a day-to-day basis. Some wells require that different types be used at different parts in the hole, or that some types be used in combination with others.

Water-based mud (WBM): A most basic water-based mud system begins with water, then clays and other chemicals are incorporated into the water to create a homogenous blend resembling something between chocolate milk and a malt (depending on viscosity). The clay (called “shale” in its rock form) is usually a combination of native clays that are suspended in the fluid while drilling, or specific types of clay that are processed and sold as additives for the WBM system. The most common of these is bentonite, frequently referred to in the oilfield as “gel”. Gel likely makes reference to the fact that while the fluid is being pumped, it can be very thin and free-flowing (like chocolate milk), though when pumping is stopped, the static fluid builds a “gel” structure that resists flow. When an adequate pumping force is applied to “break the gel”, flow resumes and the fluid returns to its previously free-flowing state. Many other chemicals (e.g. potassium formate) are added to a WBM system to achieve various effects, including: viscosity control, shale stability, enhance drilling rate of penetration, cooling and lubricating of equipment.

Oil-based mud (OBM) or Invert: Oil-based mud can be a mud where the base fluid is a petroleum product such as diesel fuel. Oil-based muds are used for many reasons, some being increased lubricity, enhanced shale inhibition (which is critical when drilling horizontal shale formations to be multi-stage fracked), and greater cleaning abilities with less viscosity. Oil-based muds also withstand greater heat without breaking down. The use of oil-based muds has special considerations. These include cost and environmental considerations.

Synthetic-based fluid (SBM): Synthetic-based fluid is a mud where the base fluid is a synthetic oil. This is often used on offshore rigs or in environmentally sensitive areas, because it has the properties of an oil-based mud, but the toxicity of the fluid fumes are much less than an oil-based fluid. This is important when men work with the fluid in an enclosed space such as an offshore drilling rig.
