Work Process of Mud cleaner:

The weighted mud flows to the inlet head section of the desander and/or desilter entering the hydrocyclones for separation of particles. Mud leaving the underflow is further screened with fine mesh to separate larger particles allowing only barite-size particles to pass through the screen.

Hydrocyclone is a cone container with cylinder parts, upper of cone is the feed room; the outside equipped a tangential feed room; The bottom of cone is the opening mouth, whose diameter can be adjusted, and used to discharging solid phase particles. The top of closed upright cylinder has a downward inserted overflow pipe which can extend to the position of below the tangent pulp inlet. Its structure as followings:


1 Cylinder, its inner diameter size can signify hydrocyclone nominal dimension.
2 Cone, have the function of centrifugal foce, and usually the taper angle is 15°~20o.
3 Inlet pipe, for separation drilling fluid enter into the hydrocyclone from inlet pipe, in order to improve the movement state in the hydrocycle and improve separation efficiency.
4 Overflow pipe, the treated drilling fluid return to drilling fluid circulating system through overflow pipe, in order to prevent drilling fluid directly spillover in the cylinder, its depth should extend to cone body of hydrocyclone.
5 Settling tube, the cleaned solid phase particles and a small amount of liquid discharged by settling tube. In order to improve hydrocyclone bottom flow, improve separation efficiency, the bottom mouth diameter of settling tube can be adjusted.


The general hydrocyclone shell is the cast iron, and the inner of hydrocyclone should lined the wearproof rubber to improve wear-resisting property. In order to further improve service life, some overall shell adopts polyurethane material, wear-resisting corrosion resistance. Large size hydrocyclone shell adopt aluminum alloy material, inner lined polyurethane to guarantee shell body have enough strength and loss the weight.

To design hydrocyclone must with minimum loss of liquid phase provides maximum clearance of the basic principles. The DCS700-3 shale shaker and mud cleaner is the first and second stage solid control equipment in mud cleaning system. They all have two 2×1.72kw long vibration motor. And the treating capacity is 130m3/h.

Drilling fluid decanting centrifuge used for recovery barite to remove small solid particles, reduce the mud solid content, to ensure the performance of the drilling fluid. And DC production drilling fluid centrifuge has high purification efficiency, convenient adjustment and easy maintenance. The DCLW360-1200VFD centrifuge is a frequency conversion which rotary speed can be adjusted by the control box, and its max treating capacity can get to 40m3/h.

Desanders should be used in unweighted mud when shakers are unable to screen down to 140 mesh(100 micron). The role of desanders is to reduce loading downstream on desilters. Installing a desander ahead of the desilter relieves a significant amount of solids loading on the desilter and improves its efficiency. High rates rates of pretration, especially unconsolidated “surface hole” where the largest diameter bits are used, results in generating larger concentrations of drilled solids. This may place desilters in rope discharge. For reason, desanders which have greater volumetric capacity and can make separations of coarser drilled solids are placed upstream of desilters.


Desanders remove a higher mass(coarser drilled solids) during periods of high solids loading. Desilters can efficiently process the reduced solids content overflow of the desanders.

If the drill rate is slow, generating only a few hundred pounds per hour of drilled solids, the desander maybe turned off drilled solids, the desander maybe turned off and the desilter used to process the entire circulating system.

Desilter should be used on all unweighted water-base mud. These units are not used on weighted muds because they discard an appreciable amount of barite. Most barite particles fall within the silt-size range.

Desilter operation is important for all unweighted fluids, however, in oil-based muds with high viscosities( as found in deep water drilling) the apex discharge maybe centrifuged for” oil-phase” salvage.

Hydrocyclones should process all drilling fluid entering their suction compartments independent of the drilling fluid circulation rate.

Mud Cleaner is the second class and the third class solids control equipment which is the newest type to treat the drilling fluid.

At the same time Mud cleaner has the higher cleaning function compared with separated desander and desilter. In addition to the reasonable design process, it equals another shale shaker DC mud cleaner structure is compact, it occupys small space and the function is powerful. DCQJ200×2/100×8 Mud cleaner is made of a desander and desilter, the desander is made of two 8’’ hydrocyclones. The desilter is made of eight 4’’ hydrocyclones. The inlet liquid diameter is 150mm and the discharge fluid diameter is 200mm. and the matching pump is 37-45kw.

The mud cleaners are given a three-part coatings to maximize equipment life.  Spare parts and consumables have been designed to ensure the lowest replacement cost & long-term product durability. The numbers of hydrocyclone device decided the productivity, and rotary flow quantity.

Inlet pipelineDrilling fluid enter into hydrocyclone from it. In order to improve the state motion of hydrocyclone, improve separation efficiency. The depth should stretch to the cone location.

Overflow pipeline: The processed drilling fluid return to drilling fluid circulation system from overflow, in order to prevent drilling fluid overflow in cylinder, the depth should stretch to the cone location.

Precipitate pipe line: The eliminated solid phase particles and little fluid discharged from precipitate pipe line. In order to improve the bottom flow of hydrocyclone and improve separation efficiency, the bottom flow mouth diameter of precipitate pipe can be adjusted.

Usually the shell of hydrocyclone manufactured with cast iron. In order to improve the wear resisting property, the inner all use wear resisting rubber. In order to further improve its service life, some whole shell adopt polyurethane material, not only wear resistance but also corrosion resisting. To big size hydrocyclone, the shell use aluminium alloy, inner lining polyurethane, it can pledge shell have enough strength and decrease the weight.

Design hydrocyclone must base the minimum liquid loss provide the maximal solid phase eliminating efficiency. To my surprise, on the morning September 3, I went to work, I have no attention to open my email, I found a inquiry email from Italy solid control company, he said they saw our products on alibaba, they were very interesting with our company, they want the inquiry with shale shaker, I excited to shout” I have inquiry”, this is the first inquiry from my work within the three month. I had very excited, after I send a price list to him, of course this is my first order, so the price is lower compared with the same industry of other companies, the client was satisfied with my inquiry, then he sent a detailed content with shale shaker, the main content is; they want a shale shaker mating with 3000 meters well, let us gave a suggestion for him, then the detailed content was sent to our technology engineer, the engineer patient and careful design, at last fished a reasonable and reliable scheme. On September 5, we sent the scheme to the Italy client, the client thought that there are some parts were didn’t matching the link way and terrain. Then we received the need and improved the scheme, at last the client was very satisfied with our service and scheme. He hope we can established business relations each other, we also hope we can have business communication.

This order is succeed, it give me confidence and patience, I believe that efforts will be fruitful.
