Shale shakers remove large solids (typically larger than 75 microns) from drilling fluid. (Drilling fluid is also known as drilling mud due to its turbid appearance.) Drilling fluids lubricate and cool the drill bit and are therefore integral to any drilling process. Because fluids are expensive to produce, shale shakers improve a rig’s economy by stripping away cuttings for disposal before recycling the fluid.

The dryer shaker, or dryer, is a linear motion shaker used to minimize the volume of liquid associated with drilled cuttings discharged from the main rig shakers and hydrocyclones.

The dryer shaker deliquifies drilled cuttings initially separated by another piece of solids-separation equipment. These drilled solids can be the discharge from a main shaker or a bank of hydrocyclones. Dryers recover liquid discharged with solids in normal liquid/solids separation that

Vibration enhances the fluid flowrate through the screen and causes the cake to migrate along the screen surface to the exit.
