DC got a tender order from Indonesia who are our old clients last week. The order is 4 sets ZYQ1200 Mud gas separator. ZYQ series Mud gas separator(Poor Boy Degasser) is professional equipment to treat the gas invade mud. When the drilling mud result gas invade, the proportion of its weight and viscosity have a greater deviation not to meet the requirements of drilling.

Mud gas separator is also called Poorboy degasser or liquid gas separator which is a common safety device in oil and gas drilling mud circulation system. The purpose of a separator is to separate free gas or mixed gas and oil from the drilling fluid and convey the gas or oil to a flare or holding tank.

Liquid gas separator process applied in variety industrial place are based on “Gravity settling”, “Impingement” and “Centrifugation, mechanisms.  Sometimes, they use either one or a combination of them and also” Filtration. As for a general rule, mechanical separation happened when the phases are not miscible and have different densities.


In momentum separation, fluid phases with different densities and have different momentum. Due to change of a two phase stream direction suddenly, the heavy phase of liquid( greater momentum) separated from the loght fluid. Gravity separation when occurs that liquid droplets settle out of a gas phase and the gravitational force of the droplet is greater than the drag force of the gas flowing around the droplet. Also in filtration, a fluid-solid or liquid-gas mixture will pass through a porous barrier which traps most of the solid or liquid particulates contained in the mixture.

The vertical gas-liquid separators are one of the fixed process equipment. This article attempts to five methods of two-phase separator design. Drilling fluid mud gas separator is a special equipment of gas cut drilling fluid primary degassing, it is mainly used to eliminate the bubbles which the diameter is about 3-25 mm. The big bubbles is aiming at the expansion gas which is fully the borehole, if it is not eliminated, it will causes the well kick even spurt the surface of drill plate. The equipment uses the prevent sulfur material and adapts the gas with H2s processing.

Working theory

The gas cut drilling fluid enter into separator from the separator inlet month, after impacting with the impact plate, scattered in a series baffle, crashing and increase and reveal the surface area, then downward flow causing the flocculated flow state, make the gas separation with drilling fluid. The free gas is discharged through the gas outlet of the top tank, the length of the exhaust pipe is decided and installed by the field and is lead to the safe place, but the after degassing drilling fluid flow into circulating tank through drilling fluids shale shaker.


It is installed in the ground near the 1 circulating tank, using the wire rope fixed the lifting lug place up the separator main body with the ground.

According the requirements of diagram form to connect the line after install well.


We should check the bottom buffer plate when use it, we must replace the two baffle if the wearing is extend 10 mm.

The drilling fluid in mud gas separator should be emptying after use (especially in winter) and open the cleaning month or the entrance is cleaned
