The Operation Principle of Drilling Mud Decanter Centrifuge

The drilling fluid decanting centrifuge is driven by two motors. The main motor drives the drum and differential shell rotation by the belt . The vice motor drives the spiral through the differential variable speed . The drum and spiral
rotate together in the same direction, but at different speeds . Separate the solid phases in the drilling mud by the centrifugal sedimentation principle. Suspending fluids is pushed into the rotor drum through the inlet pipe and under
the force of screw propeller, under the effect of centrifugal force, the solid phases will be pushed onto the inside wall of the drum, pass the impeller on the screw propeller and be discharged from the exhaust hole at the small side of
the drum. The fluids is excreted from the overflow hole of the large end. So continuous circle like above to achieve the target of continuous solid-liquid separation.

Deanter centrifuge is a very efficiency equipment for wasterwater process working progress. The centrifuge consists of a solid bowl, which rotates and contains the process. A screw conveyor, contained within the bowl, turns at a slightly different speed from the bowl.

The sediment is mostly dewatered under the combined action of the screw conveyor squeeze and drum dehydration. After the separation, the liquid is discharged freely through the liquid outlet point.

Separate the expensive mud

When separate the expensive oil base or synthetic base drilling fluid, overflow often returned to the mud system, but the big barites bottom follow with big solid particles are discharged and replaced by good barites. Because it contain colloform and the colloid particles can increase the viscosity.

This is a polular method to use the not aggravate drilling fluid reduce the drilling fluid waste. But if the returned fluid quality is inappropriate, it could be harmful. Only the returned fluid solid particles density is less than 2 times of mud expected solid particles concentration. If the concentration is higher, the method will lead to the amount of waste is increase. So we must monitor the solid particles content in the returned drilling fluid system.

Conclusion

The purpose of separate aggravate drilling fluid is eliminating colloform or colloid particles, can’t eliminate the low rate solid particles. Colloid is a very small particles and can’t precipitate in purified water. So they can’t separated by centrifugation. Separation overflow returned to drilling fluid system always obtain colloid, so the particles always damaged. Reasonable use one or two sets centrifuge can obtain greater benefit when aggravate drilling fluid or compound drilling fluid works
