Desander Cyclones are pressure-driven separators that require a pressure drop across the unit to cause separation of the solids from
the bulk phase (water, oil or gas, etc).

The inlet stream (containing solids) enters the cyclone through a tangential Inlet Section under pressure, where it is forced into a
spiral motion by the cyclone’s internal profile. The internal cone shape causes the spinning to accelerate, which generates high
centrifugal forces, causing the denser solid particles to move to the outer wall of the Cyclone, while the Water/Oil/Gas is displaced
to the central core.

Solids continue to spiral down along the outer wall of the conical section inside the Cyclone to the Outlet or Underflow, where they exit. It is typical to collect the solids in a closed underflow container or vessel, and periodically dump these solids.

De-sanded Water/Oil/Gas in the central core section reverses direction and is forced out through the central Vortex Finder at the
top of the Cyclone as the Overflow.

A desilter is used to separate silts from drilling mud. The cut point can be as low as 4“. As muds are being used in drilling operations, they are contaminated with silts. In order to use again these mud, it is necessary to separate silts and also to recycle mud to dispose them at the end of work duty.

We commonly used 5 “and 4″ cone to separate solid-phase particle size 15-47μm in the drilling fluid. Based on customer requirements and capacity, we can select groups of cone into Desilter. DC Desilter works very well with Solids control system other equipment.

DC solid control engineer designed a small desander system for Singapore clients which is mainly used for urban architecture field.

The samll desander system mainly include a desander, mud tank and a feeding pump.

The desander matched 2 pcs 10″ hydrocyclone, the material of the hydrocyclone is iron that is customized according to the clients request. The mud tank dimension is 2.5×2.2×1.8m, painted the specified-Sigma brand. The feeding pump is DSB3X2-12 sand pump, with explosion proof and IECEX certificed of the motor.

Desanders are what larger diameter hydro-cyclones are typically referred as, and will be the next step in solids removal after an initial scalping shaker pass. Desanders are capable of handling large flow rates, up to 500 gpm per cone, but do not offer as fine of a cut. The underflow will be recirculated over a shaker and processed again while the overflow will be free to move on to the next stage, typically a desilter.

Desilters are what smaller diameter hydrocyclones are typically referred to as, and will generally be used directly after a desander. Occasionally desanders will not be necessary and the desilter will operate immediately after the scalping pass. While desilting cones can achieve a finer cut, down to 20 micron, than desander cones they cannot process at as high of a rate per cone and are headered together in order to meet the desired throughput. The Underflow will be recirculated over a shaker and processed again while the overflow will be free to move on to the next stage, whether it’s a centrifuge, chemical treatment, or a finished product.
