Desilter is the third class equipment in solids control system, it is used to separate the solid particles whose diameter is 15-44μm from drilling fluid. The desilter produced by DC Machinery has the advantages of large handling capacity, high separation ability and convenient operation.

desilter

The important problem is how to install it.

A The outlet and inlet connected by 6’’sebific duct, there is a pore on the top of overflow pipe to prevent desilter produce siphoning functionary. In order to don’t affect desilter regular work, we should not block the air-bleed hole, because it will have little drilling fluid outflow when desilter works, when it works shouldprevent desilter bleeder pipe blocked to avoid influence it normally work.
B The two ends of inlet pipe and overflow pipe all connected with flanged, and guarantee all can ingress or egress drilling fluid, in order to 8’’sebific duct caninstall in the other tank, the joint of overflow pipe can extend to any angles of axis spinning.

C Before operate desilter should open the screen box fixed device.
D The outlet pressure of centrifugal pump is the key of adjustment desilter.
E We must note when install screen, because screen installation directly influence screen service life, if can’t well install will damage screen. When install screen shouldn’t too loose and too tighten, if too loose, screen and supporting adhesive tape will have panting when shale shaker works, screen will rapidly damaged. If tootighten, screen forced too big can damage serious even tear the screen.
F Using retaining mechanism, it used to lock the screen and tighten scroll.
G We should notice the screen maintenance, don’t use spade and other hard scrape, hit screen, and according to different drilling fluid use different mesh screen.

DC Solids is professional manufacturer for complete sets of drilling mud separation and recycling equipment. The conventional equipment like shale shaker, mud cleaner, desander, desilter, vacuum degasser, decanter centrifuge, mud agitator, mud gun, centrifugal pump, screw pump, etc. Here, let’s learn more about desander and desilter.

Desander and desilter are solids control equipment with a set of hydrocyclones that separate sand and silt from the drilling mud used on drilling rigs.

They can be installed separately: Desander is installed on top of the mud tank following shale shaker and vacuum degasser, but before the desilter. Desilter is installed on top of the mud tank following Desander. They also can be installed completely: in this case, they are installed on one deck shaker and called mud cleaner or mud conditioner.

Desander removes the abrasive solids from drilling mud which cannot be removed by shale shakers. Normally the solids diameter for desander to be separated would be 45~74μm, and 15~44μm for desilter.

Both Desilters and Desanders are available in a large range of configurations including stand alone, over a shaker as a mud cleaner or packaged with a supply pump as a mobile desilting unit. Please contact your DC office to discuss applications and appropriate technical specifications.

A desilter is a centrifugal device for removing very fine particles or silt from drilling fluid to keep the amount of solids in the fluid at the lowest possible point.Desilters and desanders remove fine particles, or small solids, to keep them from contaminating the drilling mud.

Desilter02

DC desilter is the third class solids control equipment to treat the drilling fluids. According to the size of the cone diameter, they are divided into Desander and Desilter. Usually the cone diameter is less than 6″is called Desilter, and used as the third-control equipment in drilling operation. We commonly used 5 “and 4″ cone to separate solid-phase particle size 15-47μm in the drilling fluid. Based on customer requirements and capacity, we can select groups of cone into Desilter. DC Desilter works very well with Solids control system other equipments.

Desanders and desilters are solids control equipment that is installed on top of a mud tank. Each piece of equipment consists of a set of hydrocyclones that separate sand and silt from drilling fluid while they differ by the size of the hydrocyclones used.

Desanders utilize several 8″, 10″, or 12″ hydrocyclones. Utilizing hydrocyclones with larger internal diameters increases the flow rate as well as the size of the solids removed. Increasing the number of hydrocyclones in the package also increases the flow rate of drilling mud through the desander. Typically a 10 inch cone (hydrocyclone) is capable of removing 50% of solids with in the 40 to 50 micrometer range at a flow rate of 500 gallons per minute.

SONY DSC

Desilters utilize smaller hydrocyclones and are used to process mud that has already been cycled through the desander. The number of cones in a desilter is greater than the corresponding desander as the smaller cones accommodate lower flow rates. Desilters are comprised of either 4″ or 5″ cones whereas each 4″ cone is capable of removing 50% of solids 15 to 20 micrometers in range at a flow rate of 60 gallons per minute.

Desanders and desilters are used to remove solids from drilling fluid that a shale shaker is incapable of removing. Other solids control equipment that may be used upstream from desanders and desilters includes degassers, mud cleaners, and gumbo removal equipment. Typically a decanting centrifuge follows the desilter before the drilling fluid is pumped back down into the well.

Bored piles are cast in place cylindrical piles excavated either by use of rotary equipment operated augers , buckets, under static drilling fluid or large drill bit (for hard rock) with reverse circulation.

The reason to use desander unit is that Bored piles installed in common soil with the presence of water table, generally require the use of a short temporary steel casing and a drilling fluid as static suspension to provide support to the surrounding soil while excavating the pile and until complete back fill of the pile excavation with concrete, in order to prevent cave-in of the excavation and destabilizing the surrounding soil formation.

Hydrocyclones is also called cyclone separator. Hydrocyclones consist of desander(10 in. cone) and desilter(4 in. cone)are drilling rig equipments with a set of hydrocyclones that separates sand and silt from the drilling fluid. Desander is installed after shakers and degasser but before desilter. Desander removes those abrassive solids from the drilling mud which cannot be removed by shakers.

Desanders are used to remove suspended solids from liquid process streams. One of the primary applications is to improve the quality of waste water. Treatment of waste water normally involves multiple process steps to remove the impurities and ensure that the final effluent discharge is compliant to regulatory specifications.

Desander cones

A desander has an entry port near the top on the side of the vessel, a hydrocyclone central component, and two discharge points (one on the top of the vessel and one on the bottom). The hydrocyclone is oriented so that the wide opening is at the top and the narrow opening at the bottom.

desander

Hydrocyclones are designed according to the efficiency of solids removal required and the flow rate of the product stream. A typical waste water desander will remove particles with a mean of up to 10 microns. Any flow rate can be accommodated by appropriate sizing of the hydrocyclone design.

Waste water screens are sometimes used upstream of desanders to remove large items such as rags and bolts, and protect the cyclones from damage. A desander can operate for up to 10 years if properly protected and maintained.
