Mud cleaner is the combination of bottom shale shaker, desander and desilter. DC Solid control completed the production of three cleaners for foreign customers.

This model Mud Cleaner combines 10” desander hydrocyclone(s) with smaller 4” hydrocyclones, effectively taking two “cuts” at the unwanted solids contaminating the fluid. The 10” remove large solids down to approximately 100 microns and the 4” can remove solids down to the 20 micron size range. The vibratory screening unit is designed to take the underflow of both size sets of hydrocylones and separate the concentrated solids from the liquid.

The Mud Cleaner requires two pumps to operate, with the pump feeding the 10” cyclones typically taking a suction from a compartment upstream from the compartment from which the other pump takes its suction to feed the 4” hydrocyclones.

Shakers act by removing solids from drilling fluid as the mud passes over the surface of a vibrating screen. Particles smaller than the openings in the screen pass through the holes of the screen along with the liquid phase of the mud.

Particles too large to pass through the screen are thereby separated from the mud for disposal. Without proper screening of the drilling fluid during this initial removal step, downstream equipment will experience reduced efficiency and effectiveness. The downstream hydrocyclones and/or centrifuges (if elected) will simply be overloaded beyond their design capacity.

You need to ensure that the vent line should be as straight as possible with a larger ID in order to minimize back pressure while venting the gas out.

They can be installed separately: Desander is installed on top of the mud tank following shale shaker and vacuum degasser, but before the desilter. Desander removes the abrasive solids from drilling mud which cannot be removed by shale shakers. Normally the solids diameter for desander to be separated would be 45~74μm, and 15~44μm for desilter.
